To fulfill our mission of supporting sustainable education in Mali, Ouelessebougou Alliance currently works with 12 partner schools to provide quality education in various villages. Enrollment in Grade 1 alone is over 350 for this year, compared to the 200 grade 1 students we had last year. The students in these schools are supported by a solid network of educators and school district workers; Ouelessebougou Alliance works closely with the local Mali school district office called, Centre D'animation Pédagogique (CAP) to ensure those teachers have the tools and training necessary to meet students’ educational needs.
Education Council Update
Each of our partner schools has an Education Council, much like the Parent Teacher Associations in the US. Education Councils are made-up of parents and representatives from the villages. Ouelessebougou Alliance works to support these councils by providing an annual training that encourages the education council on how to prioritize education within their villages. This summer, two representatives from each education council from our 12 partner schools traveled from their communities to join us for a one-day training. The training was conducted by two CAP (the local school district) representatives. They led a discussion with the education council on their legal responsibilities as well as worked through challenges the councils are facing and how they can overcome them.
Teacher Training Update
Along with Ouelessebougou Alliance’s focus on educating the youth of Mali, we offer an adult literacy class to help working-class members of these communities, especially women, better themselves and their prospective opportunities. To ensure a high level of comprehension, Ouelessebougou Alliance organizes an annual Literacy Class Training for all of our literacy teachers. CAP representatives in the Bougouni and Ouelessebougou school districts conduct the training to ensure that our curriculum and teachers meet local government standards. This year’s training was incredible, with 100% of our adult literacy teachers in attendance. Working closely with CAP helps us to foster goodwill toward any and all Ouelessebougou Alliance classes and programs, as well as give the teachers extra support and training so they can be the best teachers possible.
Thank you for supporting these incredible programs that make lasting and sustainable changes within the communities in Mali!
