Ninos de Guatemala (NDG) provides 550 low-income Guatemalan children with access to the quality education they deserve. NDG operates 3 own schools, and helps children get "skills for success" in education and life. The skills NDG works on are: Emotional intelligence, language skills in Spanish and English, Technology and Digital Citizenship. In 2022 NDG will have a hybrid education program and will need funds to cover the 4 main educational licenses necessary for all the students in 2022.
NDG works with children from low-income families who often see school as having a cost beyond their means. Although education is provided by the government, students are still required to pay for uniforms, books, field trips, supplies, and transportation. Besides, the quality of government education is so deficient that parents often question its value and wonder whether they are doing more damage than good.
NDG schools offer quality education to the communities of Ciudad Vieja and San Lorenzo. The schools have adequate facilities, outstanding teachers as well as a team of psychologists and social workers. Using a STEAM approach our schools strive to truly transfer "skills for success" to our students and work with their parents to ensure graduates who are motivated and equipped. In 2021 we could provide with tablets to high school students and now we need better school platforms at all levels.
By providing a generation of Guatemalans with this type of education, NDG strives to replace a vicious cycle with a virtuous one. Instead of poverty sowing the seeds for still more poverty, NDG education today will foster an environment that leads to opportunities and accomplishments for all generations to come. Our children will have the chance to access better jobs and college careers. They can flourish and become leaders in their own communities and the whole country.
