Preventing Addiction: Empowering Teens

By Tina Moira | Project Leader

Training with teenagers on addiction prevention
Training with teenagers on addiction prevention

Dear Supporter,

In our ongoing efforts to address critical issues faced by vulnerable adolescents in Transnistria, our partner, Family Love, organized an essential training session focused on addiction prevention. Recognizing that children from our supported families are particularly at risk due to lack of knowledge, support, and low self-esteem, we took proactive steps to educate and protect them.

The training session targeted children aged 11-15, providing them with valuable information through the engaging medium of cartoons. These visual aids helped illustrate what drugs are, how addictions form, and the severe consequences of substance abuse. Initially, the children were hesitant, but they soon engaged actively in the dialogue, highlighting the importance of communication during adolescence.

Understanding the importance of making this event memorable, we provided each child with a small gift—a pen and a notebook—and treated them to tea and delicious cake. This gesture not only helped in breaking the ice but also made the children feel valued and supported.

Tatiana, a social worker at the Service for Families at Risk, reflected on the success of the training: "It was a very necessary conversation. Children from socially vulnerable families need opportunities for communication and social adaptation."

One of the participants, 14-year-old Anna, expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you for such an interesting communication. We saw what the consequences are."

Your unwavering support allows us to continue organizing such impactful initiatives, bringing hope and knowledge to those who need it most. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of these young individuals, helping them navigate their challenges and build a brighter future.

With heartfelt thanks,
