When I look at Arca's most recent photos and videos, I feel a great sense of pride that I want to share with you. Since your contributions are crucial to our work and bring the joy you see on the children's faces, I would like you to feel as proud as we do. So what is there to be proud of?
In mid 2023, the educational team at Arca do Saber was thrilled to discover that "the children and teenagers had returned to a level of listening and working behaviors and attitudes similar to those before Covid-19 pandemic." To achieve this result, the team put in a lot of effort, patience, and support from a social assistant and psychologist in 2022 and 2023.
To compensate the educational loss, a special emphasis was put on incentives for reading through initiatives like regular story tellings, refurbishing the library, inviting a children's author...
Artistic, linguistic and sporting activities have helped build self-esteem and discipline. Many outings have been organized for the children as well as for the students of our vocational center. The latest of which took students from Saber, Crescer and Arca's staff on a guided tour of the São Paulo Arts Biennial on the theme "Choreography of the Impossible", a questioning of access to justice, freedom, equality and inclusion.
"To break down the walls of the favela and broaden horizons" has always been one of Arca's missions. We couldn't have imagined that in 2023, we would achieve this goal to such an extent that, for the first time in Arca's history, 17 teenagers from the favela—boys and girls—travelled to France in July to play rugby, capoiera and visit the country. This travel was made possible thanks to many partnerships and volunteers. From now on, for this group of teenagers, there's no such thing as "impossible".
