Dear friends and supporters:
We’re thrilled to share some highlights from the past two months. Thanks to your generous contributions, our community continues to grow, learn, and thrive—even in the face of challenges. Here’s a look at all that we’ve accomplished together: April 20 – A Day of Inner Peace
On Saturday, April 20, twenty young girls and boys joined us for a full day of Ana Pana meditation with a visiting Vipassana teacher from Colombia. The day unfolded in peaceful 45-minute sessions with restful breaks in between. These young practitioners, many of whom have been meditating with us for years, showed great focus and maturity. It was truly inspiring! April – Literacy Blossoms!
In partnership with Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (UASB) and UNESCO, we launched a powerful literacy program for women and girls. Thirty women from our community and neighboring villages, along with ten young girls, are now attending regular classes. The sessions are led by four local instructors—women from our own volunteer network who were trained especially for this project. Classes will continue through August, and we’re already seeing incredible progress. Cocina Memoria – Our Flavors, Our Stories
The Círculo de Mujeres’ entrepreneurship project, Cocina Memoria, is growing beautifully! With seed funding from Fundación La Incubadora, the women are reviving traditional recipes handed down by mothers and grandmothers. They’ve also received training in herb gardening, leadership, and sustainable food practices—with additional support from Global Green Grants. This blend of memory, culture, and innovation is something truly special. You should expect an upcoming inauguration of their local restaurant and catering service. Youth on the Move – Surf, Scuba, and Stewardship
La Incubadora is also backing a unique youth initiative that combines aquatic sports and environmental training. In partnership with Fundacion Ceiba This program has been going on for years now. Through surf and scuba diving, local youth are gaining both confidence and professional skills. These programs are opening doors and nurturing a love for our coastal ecosystems. May 5-8 – An Unforgettable Trip to Quito
In May, a group of six young people and eight women from our community traveled to Quito, hosted by Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). They spent a full week immersed in workshops on psychology: conflict resolution, self-esteem, and leadership. Archeology workshops helped them value their cultural heritage.. They also took tai chi and meditation classes, played soccer, danced, and joined thoughtful forums on gender equality and sexual literacy. Everyone returned home energized and deeply empowered to keep making change. Our friends from USFQ will visit us shortly to support the women’s entrepreneurship and youth transition to college or work. Local Volunteers Stepping Up
While international volunteers haven’t been able to visit lately—due to Ecuador’s current security concerns—our local youth and women have stepped in with strength and purpose. Thanks to your support, volunteerism is alive and well, and it’s being carried forward by those who call this place home. From Don Juan to Germany – Our volunteers abroad
Our partnership with Welt warts continues! While we’re no longer hosting German volunteers for now, we’re proudly sending our own local youth to Germany for year-long volunteer experiences. Bryan and Adriana are successfully volunteering in Germany and, remotly sharing their experience with local teenagers. We’re delighted to announce that Karina, our latest candidate, has passed her German language exam and is preparing for her journey in September. ¡Felicitaciones!
With every crisis, we find creativity. With every challenge, we rise—together.
Thank you for believing in us and making all this possible. Your continued generosity is changing lives here on Ecuador’s northern coast—every single day.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The A Mano Manaba Team
