For senior citizens aged more than 50-years, retirement brings them to face a great transition in life which makes them don't know where to put their efforts... The 50+ Elderly Empowerment project launches various classes to build up the elderly's skills to match their second careers which encourages them to be empowered with learning, have active interpersonal experiences in the classes, have a healthy physical condition, slow their aging, and value their own lives.
To have a healthy retirement life matters to each one of us. Since 2018, as an aging society, Taiwan is having more seniors than young people; and the country is highly likely to be "hyper-aged" in 2025, and 1-in-4 people in Taiwan will be elderly. How to encourage senior citizens to make good use of their retirement life? How to guide them to react wisely to such a great transition in life, how to start another chapter of life happily and meaningfully? The project will be a solution.
First, skill empowerment like sewing or barista class is held regularly, through the class, the elders can have chances to create positive interpersonal relationships, slow aging, and maintain physical and mental conditions. Moreover, the elderly can use the skills they've learned to have income and have financial independence. Secondly, we would train and empower the elderly to be leaders and lecturers, who are able to pass down their wisdom, life stories, and working experiences to the youths.
For skill empowerment, 288 senior citizens are estimated to be benefited; and 192 older adults benefited in leadership training classes. Through the empowerment and training, we believe the new meaning and value of retirement life can be redefined and created!
