Thanks to the generosity of our GlobalGiving donors, the Elderly Mobile Health Check-ups project continues to essential healthcare services directly to older persons living in underservedcommunities. Many older people face significant barriers to accessing healthcare due to limited mobility, long distances to health facilities, and financial constraints. Through our mobile clinics, we are helping ensure that they receive timely health services and support.
During this reporting period, we conducted 8 mobile health clinics across 6 villages, reaching 80 older persons with essential health services.
the services provided included:
Several older persons were identified with health conditions requiring further treatment and were successfully referred to nearby health facilities.
Success Story : Gloria's Journey to Better Health
One of our beneficiaries, Gloria had been experiencing frequent headaches, leg pain, and back pain for some time. During one of our mobile clinics, our team checked her blood pressure and discovered that it was dangerously high. We immediately referred Gloria to Chileka Health Centre, where she received appropriate medical care and medication as prescribed.
Today Gloria;s health has improved significantly. She is no longer experiences the persistent headaches that affected her daily life. She is now able to carry out her household chores independently, attend church services, and participate in community gatherings with confidence and renewed energy.
Her story demostrates the importance of early detection and timely access to healthcarefor older persons.
Challenges
While we are encouraged by the impact of the project, the demand for mobile health services continue to grow. Limited financial resources, transportation costs, and medical supplies restrict the number of villages and older persons we can reach. Many more older people are still waiting for these life changing services.
Looking Ahead
We remain committed to expanding our mobile health outreach so that more older persons can benefit from regular health check-ups and early diagnosis of non-communicable diseases. Our goal is to increase the number of outreach clinics, strengthen follow-up care, and continue promoting healthy ageing in underserved communities.
