Summary

Casa Hogar de Cabo San Lucas A.C. works with girls and boys to transcend poverty, abusive family environments, and gender-based violence. We work to restore violated rights and strive to equip them to excel beyond the norm of our society, break cycles of violence and become agents of change in our communities. This project will focus on providing better opportunities to 40, boys and girls. Key components to drive change are continued trades training and a Social Worker.

Challenge

According to United Nations "Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than older adults and continuously exposed to lower quality of jobs, greater labor market inequalities, and longer and more insecure school-to-work transitions. In addition, women are more likely to be underemployed and under-paid, and to undertake part-time jobs or work under temporary contracts."

Solution

Starting in 2019, our teen residents participated in a 12-week trades-training course learning basic concepts of electrical circuits and how to use a soldering iron. Plumbing training currently underway. This is the beginning of our goal to teach trades throughout the year. By hiring a new Social Worker we want to strengthen our current team to provide career guidance, support in finding employment and scholarship opportunities.

Long-Term Impact

The project will invest into 40 children and teens per year that will grow up into productive, hardworking citizens, responsible spouses and role-model parents. It will provide a path out of poverty, improve the talent pool of our community and foster a positive example for new arrivals to our Center. The trades-center can be opened to the youth of the local community to extend its reach and positive impact.
