A deadly crisis across East Africa has claimed tens of thousands of lives and left millions destitute and hungry. We've reached over 3.4 million people. Thanks to donors like you, we're still on the ground, saving lives and giving children a chance at a better future. Save the Children and Merlin are working in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia by offering nutrition, health care and water and sanitation. We are also working in refugee camps to help children cope with crisis and to provide vital aid.
Food security in the Horn of Africa continues to deteriorate. Most at risk are children under 5, & pregnant and nursing women. Save the Children and Merlin continues to scale up operations in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia offering water, sanitation, nutrition & health care to over 1.7 million people through health facilities and outreach / mobile clinics.
Somalia: offering health care in 11 IDP camps, via 29 health facilities and 40 outreach / mobile clinics, & additionl medical supplies. Kenya: 31 health facilities & over 70 sites for outreach clinics, 3 stabilisation centres & supplementary feeding for chlidren under 5 and pregnant women. Ethiopia: Ongoing health and nutrition activities, mobile clinic teams visiting 30 remote locations
We are keeping children alive. Children who are critically and severely malnourished are being entered into intense supplementary feeding programs to bring them back to health. Families are being given nutrition, access to clean water & health care to treat and prevent common illnesses. This offers vulnerable communities time; they will then have the chance to survive, to see the rains, which will allow them to live in a self sufficient & sustainable way again.
