Dear Donors,
By the end of January, this project will be terminated as the floodings happened one year ago. Please find a recap of the works done in 2021 thanks to your donations:
The structure is now 89 meters long, 3 meters high from the ground and 85 meters long (length). The remaining work to be done covers the installation of Gabions which is considered to be the tool to decrease water velocity and protect the slope from erosion.
Next steps are to backfill the structure and restore two fences. An engineer from the Ministry of Public Works has proposed building a wire mesh fence instead of using concrete blocks. A lattice structure would allow water to flow on both sides of the center, whereas a block structure could collapse in case of heavy rains and rising water levels.
Finally, giant bamboo plants donated by a partner will be planted in front of the fences and the protective structure to consolidate the soil.
Thankfully, the recent passage of typhoon Rai (Odette) in the Philippines did not damage the construction work done so far, nor the houses of our beneficiaries.
We thank you for your support and remain available for any questions regarding the progress of the works.
