The country of Ethiopia has recently closed the door on International Adoptions, which has presented a challenge for the children who live in orphanages and those who care for them. International Adoptions provided a great deal of financial support for the day to day functioning of orphanages. We are raising funds to help stabilize orphanages in the short term while they make long-term plans. We want to support 100 children for at least one month (our goal is three months of support).
International adoptions are no longer allowed, so there is a shortage of funds for orphanages. As a result, many children are forced to stay in hospitals and other communities without special care. If orphanages close, the children may have no alternatives, and no support to stay alive.
Since this is a very recent change, orphanages need time to strategize for the future and find sustainable sources of food for the children. At this stage, it is a lifesaving time (like firefighting) until the government has the ability to take care of all the children that need the support.
This will help to save the lives of children in this transitional time for international adoptions in Ethiopia.
