Help to bring support to the victims of the earthquake in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. A 7.5 magnitude earthquake centred in northeastern Afghanistan struck on 26 October, causing significant loss of life and widespread damage to about 7 600 households. These families who have lost their homes need support to survive the freezing cold season . In order to face the severe winter weather our project aimed at providing winterization support to the victims.
Badakhshan situated in northeastern Afghanistan is an underserved region in the country due to its harsh mountainous terrain, facing severe winter weather, including extremely cold temperatures and heavy snowfall. More than 1 700 families have lost their homes in the earthquake and will not have proper shelter for the coming winter months. Supplies are needed to support winterization efforts, without prompt action, the families will face serious risks further threatening their lives.
Following our recent emergency support to this area we now have efficient links and collaborators on site. The project will allow to provide winterization assistance to the victims.The distribution of blankets, warm clothes, heaters and wood will considerably improve the living conditions of people living in informal settlements and reduce their vulnerability towards seasonal extremes during winter.
In order to face the extreme weather conditions during the following months, the provision of winterization support is a matter of highest concern in order to avoid illness and deaths. The project will help provide ways of fighting extreme winter temperatures to families whose homes were destroyed.
