Update from Myanmar

In 2023, more than two years after the outbreak of disturbances in February 2021, the country continues to experience turmoil in various parts of the country. It led to an increase in the number of internally displaced people, leaving many in difficult situations.

In addition, a large cyclone hit Myanmar in May 2023, which was felt over a wide area of the country. The areas where we work were not spared by the torrential rains brought by the cyclone. It resulted in extensive damage to crops that were about to be harvested. Hence, it is seriously affecting agriculture, the main source of livelihood in rural areas. With this, we will continue to consider what support we can provide to the cyclone victims to help rebuild their lives.

With regards to this issue, may I share with you the voices of our two local staff who are working on the ground. They have been continuously implementing our activities with the intention of supporting everyone who is in dire need.

Staff A:
"In the areas where we work, due to the social turmoil and the soaring prices of commodities, many people are clearly struggling. Moreover, psychologically, local villagers are also suffering because of the deteriorating security situation. Meanwhile, whenever we deliver food to a village that is in need, we are often thanked by people with tears in their eyes. According to them, they draw strength from our presence and intention to support them. It seems that other than us, nobody from outside was helping them. Personally, I feel a sense of fulfillment and a deep sense of purpose whenever I am given the chance to help my fellow people overcome their difficulties. For me, these are the main reasons why I am continuously doing whatever I can. This is despite the obstacles that we face whenever we deliver goods and services to the villagers. With your donations, we were able to extend support to those in need. We are deeply grateful. I am committed to continuing to support people in need as much as I can.

Staff B:
It is an honor to be part of it and an instrument for the delivery of your donations. In the form of food and agricultural inputs, we are supporting farmers whose crops were damaged by natural disasters. We are also extending your support to people who lost their jobs and to those who are affected by the soaring prices. Thank you for your valuable donations. We will continue extending our assistance to those in need, relaying to them your messages of support, and we ask for your continued support.
