Dear GlobalGiving supporters,

We are immensely grateful for your unwavering support of our activity in Myanmar.

Thanks to your support, we have been able to carry out our relief efforts following the massive earthquake that struck on March 28.

The 7.7-magnitude quake struck near Mandalay Province in central Myanmar, causing widespread damage to the surrounding areas, including OISCA’s own training center. By the end of May, the death toll in the disaster area exceeded 3,700 deaths.

Right after the earthquake, our local staff mobilized efforts to deliver relief to local communities. Despite extreme heat (reaching 40°C), power outages and supply shortages caused by collapsed infrastructure, they worked hard to distribute water, food, and clear the rubble.

However, challenges remained: shortages of clean water, damaged buildings, and sanitation issues had yet to be resolved. As the number of affected people kept growing, and requests for help came from the local area, we launched the “Myanmar Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund” on April 1. As of now, we have received generous support from many individuals and organizations, including nearly $4,000 in contributions through GlobalGiving.

Since the start of the donation campaign, we have distributed basic food such as rice, cooking oil, bread, and cakes produced at the training center to 443 households in 18 villages that were identified as especially in need.

In addition, we delivered financial aid to 45 households that were particularly hard-hit. These efforts were aimed at providing support that is more closely aligned with the actual needs of the affected communities. (as of the end of May)

To this day, our local staff express heartfelt gratitude to all our donors: “We sincerely thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support. We are determined to continue doing our best in our relief efforts, making sure help reaches all those in need.”

Although the recovery of damaged homes and infrastructure is expected to take a long time, we are committed to continuing our efforts in close cooperation with local stakeholders, ensuring that the donated funds are used and delivered effectively.
