Emergency Family Relief Food and Nutrition Support

 This report covers the activities in the months of  November 2021, December 2021 and January 2022. Food and nutrition security continues to be critical for economic development due to the role of nutrition in healthy growth in children who are the future of every nation. We are grateful for the support we continue to receive. Your donations are impacting the lives of many vulnerable families in informal settlements. Our onsite feeding every weekend has prevented Hundreds of children from all kinds of abuses including walking across dumping sites, rubbish, garbage collecting dirty thrown away food. Our centre now acts as a preventive centre stopping children from roaming into the streets due to hunger. Your donation has enabled us to provide a nutritious meal to hundreds if not thousands in the past several months. More so, the children are performing well in school, drug and substance abuse have reduced greatly because food is available.

During the December holidays, the number of children fed at the centre increased from 300 to 450, this was due to the closure of schools for the Christmas holidays.

Your donation helped us to build a kitchen(20ft by 16ft). We have been cooking from outside under a tree, it has been difficult during the rainy season. With this kitchen, cooking will be made easier and won’t be affected by the weather due to the rains.

In the last three months, nutritional education was introduced whereby both the children, parents/guardians and the community continue to be trained on the importance of a balanced diet. The training is handled by a nutritionist from a local health facility that we collaborate with. Women who have children under the age of 5 years have greatly benefited from this type of education.
