By SANO MASHAKO | Project Leader.
This report will highlight the progress made for the months of November, December and January.
The ngao foundation continues to cook meals for children every Saturday of the week. Due to the increased rate of hunger cases, the numbers have increased from 123 to 215 attendance (the majority being children under the age of 10) every Saturday. This means that the budget for food increased to ensure that the children are well fed.
The organisation also carried out nutrition assessment and administration of vitamin D and dewormers. This was done in collaboration with the Gichagi health centre. 71 children under the age of 10 were involved in this exercise, 46 of these children were found to be healthy, 18 were on the verge of falling into the malnutrition category, and 7 were found to be having malnutrition cases. These children were placed under special nutrition, they were given special porridge and the health care specialist assigned a special diet for them. The Ngao Foundation and the parents of these 7 children sat down and came up with a collaborative initiative to ensure the issue of malnutrition is eliminated.
The organisation provided dry food to women who live in the informal settlements, they were also trained on the importance of preparing a balanced diet in their homes. They were also shown how to practice home gardening on a small scale to provide food such as vegetables to their families.
