PROGRESS REPORT FOR FOOD AND NUTRITION

By Sano Mashako | Project leader

This report covers the progress made in the months of March, April and May. During this period, The Ngao Foundation managed to serve an average of 250 children every Saturday and served 2563 meals between the months of March to May. A total number of 889 children have benefited from this onsite feeding project, whereby 410 are boys and 479 are girls. The youngest child who has benefited from this project is 9 months. On 20th May we did a nutrition assessment whereby 147 children benefitted from Vitamin A and dewormers. We did this in collaboration with the Gichagi health facility centre.

During the April holidays, we also provided daily porridge to 24 vulnerable children. The Ngao Foundation continues to provide nutritional education to Pregnant and lactating women in the community through the PRE-LACT group, this group currently consists of 16 members who attend the session every Thursday, within the last three months, the group has covered topics on; complementary feeding, feeding HIV-exposed children, feeding non-breast-fed children, a talk on malnutrition and interpreting the height/age & weight/ age charts.

Challenges.

Many children still experience hunger, especially in informal settlements. The drought and high cost of living are forcing children to engage in criminal activities to get money for food and loiter in the streets to beg for food. We are providing meals for them and also creating activities and a safe space for them to explore their talents however this is not enough we still need your support. We look forward to you being part of the July bonus day coming up on 12th July 2023.
