Covid Cases Are on the Rise in Uganda

By Karen Sparacio | Project Leader

As we, in the United States, see a steady decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases and have access to the potentially life-saving vaccine, Uganda is not faring as well.

In the Spring of 2020, Uganda responded aggressively to the threat of the virus, and closed off borders and put the country into lockdown.  Despite the economic implications, it successfully halted the spread of Covid.  However, a new strain of Covid, has taken hold, and the number of infections are on the rise.  There are an estimated 1366 new infections being reported daily.  Concerned that the rapid and sustained increase will exhaust the available bed space and oxygen supply in hospitals, the government has taken action and enforced strict lockdown measures for 42 days.

Although these measures will hopefully stem the outbreak, the economic impact will be devastating and once again access to food will become both limited and more expensive.

Please consider donating so that we can continue a much needed food distribution in the Acholi Quarter during this challenging time.
