Emergency Health in Myanmar

In January 2026, MedAcross continued delivering primary healthcare services in Mandalay Region through the MED–Mandalay mobile clinic project, reaching rural communities in Sintgaing and Kyaukse Townships.

Ongoing political instability and economic hardship continue to restrict access to healthcare. Public facilities operate irregularly, transportation is difficult, and private care remains unaffordable for many families. As a result, mobile clinics remain a crucial source of medical assistance for remote villages.

During the month, six outreach sessions were conducted in Ah Shey Ywar Nan, Nger Mway Kone, Thindaung, Indaing, Chaung Pat, and Moe Kaung. Overall, 325 people received free medical consultations, treatment, and essential medicines.

Women represented 78% of beneficiaries, highlighting the importance of community-based healthcare in improving access for female patients in rural areas. The team also identified patients requiring advanced care and facilitated referrals to specialized outpatient departments and partner organizations supporting tuberculosis treatment.

Monthly health data confirms a high prevalence of non-communicable diseases among adults and elderly patients. Musculoskeletal disorders, hypertension, and diabetes were the most common diagnoses in individuals over 18 years old, reinforcing the need for continuity of care and regular follow-up.

Among younger patients, acute febrile illnesses, respiratory infections, and skin conditions were the most frequently reported diagnoses. If left untreated, these illnesses can lead to serious complications, particularly in underserved settings.

Community engagement remained strong across all targeted villages, demonstrating continued trust in the mobile clinic services. Access to free consultations and medicines significantly reduces financial barriers to healthcare.

Despite security challenges, activities were implemented as planned through close coordination with local leaders and careful monitoring of the operational context.

MedAcross remains committed to strengthening access to primary healthcare in Myanmar, ensuring that vulnerable families especially women, elderly people, and patients with chronic diseases receive the care they need.

Since March 2025, MedAcross has been bringing free medical care to rural communities in Southern Myanmar through the PRO.MY – Mobile Clinics for Rural Health project, supported by the Otto per Mille of the Waldensian Church.

In this region, years of political crisis and conflict have left thousands of families without access to healthcare. Many clinics are closed, medicines are too expensive, and travel to hospitals is unsafe or unaffordable.

To respond to this urgent need, our mobile medical teams visit ten remote villages every month, providing free consultations, treatments, and essential medicines. Each team includes doctors, nurses, and local health workers who focus on the most vulnerable — especially women and children.

The project also ensures quarterly obstetric check-ups for over 200 pregnant women and monthly follow-up visits for 1,000 patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

Between March and October 2025, the clinics have reached nearly 4,000 people. In October alone, seven sessions were organized in the villages of Patta, TinTaung, InnDaing, MoeKaung, ChaungPat, Na Be Pin, and TaungYin, providing medical care to 446 people affected by the recent earthquake.
