A one-week spell of high tides and large waves have been devastating for the small island village of Cocal. Cocal is a small low-income community, much of which is built on sand, with houses made of only corrugated iron. With the sea conditions Cocal has been hit hard, the waves bringing with them tons of sand have completely destroyed at least 6 houses and have left 65 people displaced including 35 children, many of whom have lost all their belongings.
Our remarkable partners at the school have given these people a place to sleep and a roof over their head and the GVI classroom houses a few families. Cocal is an inspiring community with such a setback everyone is pulling together and working hard to get the families the food and accommodation they need. With the surrounding areas of Quepos and Manuel Antoni
GVI have been working closely with the school in Cocal for the last few years teaching English, sports, arts and environmental education. Together with our partners GVI is providing manpower to restore day-to-day normalcy for the children of Cocal. With limited funds restoring the village infrastructure will take much time and any donations are very welcome.
