Asia America Initiative is supporting the health and well-being of up to 3,000 refugees and displaced persons trapped in Afghanistan and evacuation sites in the US and the Middle East. We are providing "Family Support" kits with personal relief supplies, Covid-19 protection items of masks, face shields, hand sanitizer, and nutrition packs. We are continuing to collect these and other emergency supplies and raise funds to transport these life-saving materials to centers or isolated communities.
More than 2 million Afghan residents are potential refugees as the extremist Taliban and other terrorist groups take over their country. Most of these refugees are in desperate conditions with only the clothes on their backs and no financial resources. These refugees are being transported around the world through the auspices of the US military and some private commercial airlines companies. Besides the threat of being shot by extremists, they have little to eat and no COVID-19 protection.
We are providing "Family Support" Kits filled with essential personal hygiene products and PPE Covid-19 protection items such as masks, face shields, hand sanitizer, etc. We are also providing hygiene and nutritional supplies for babies, toddlers, and mothers. In addition, we are buying clothes, blankets, and bedding. We are giving special attention to mothers and infants, the elderly, and others with special health needs and providing toys when able to help heal traumatized children.
The long-term impact of this program is to save lives in the immediate crisis while preparing up to 3,000 evacuees to have the materials they need to survive and transition to a new safe environment. In addition, we are providing scholarship funds for some Afghanistan students in the United States so they may continue their studies. AAI's mission is to stabilize communities in times of crisis. Our goal is to ease the trauma for the refugees still in limbo.
