Medicos del Mundo (Doctors of the World) teams are already mobilizing to reach the most affected areas for an initial emergency response. This earthquake only adds to a crisis already being experienced by millions of people on Syrian territory and on the border with Turkey.
As already noted by the European Commission's Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the scale, severity and complexity of the needs throughout Syria were already overwhelming, with a population scarred by conflict for more than a decade, which is beginning to fade from the international agenda. The disastrous economic situation, insufficient rainfall and severe drought conditions that have led to food insecurity, water crises and cholera outbreaks have only added bigger risks.
Doctors of the World is present in the region since 2008. It supports the local authority to ensure access to primary health care services, including malnutrition, epidemic assistance, mental health and psychological support, as well as sexual and reproductive health care. It does so in 14 health centers and mobile clinics covering a population of approximately 900,000 people in northeastern Syria and by directly providing health services in the northwest of the country in 12 health centers
By assisting the emergency and continue with the work Medicos del Mundo has been carrying out , we intend to help the health, both mental and physical of those affected not only by war but also by this earthquake
