As the communities we work with in eastern Ethiopia recover and rebuild after last year's flooding, a series of earthquakes and ongoing volcanic activity is threatening and further disrupting people's lives.
While global corporate media has largely ignored recent developments, communities in northeast Ethiopia have been devastated by over 50 earthquakes in recent months. With over 50,000 people displaced while a cholera outbreak in the region threatens to worsen, we have now launched an urgent appeal to address the challenges facing communities: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/emergency-response-to-earthquakes-in-ethiopia/
Homes, health centres, roads, schools and farms have been severely damaged, with crops and livestock lost. There are further concerns over damage to major infrastructure like dams, with the potential for further catastrophic flooding.
We appreciate your ongoing support for the recovery in Ethiopia and are grateful for any help you can give, whether contributing to keeping people safe or spreading the word about these latest developments.
