Challenge

Around Sierra Leone thousands of young people face barriers to education and livelihood, especially those living in low resource communities that have high unemployment and a history of conflict. There are discrepancies in the access to youth development programs. In general the urban youths have greater access to youth development activities than do their rural counterparts. In addition, access to youth development programs also appears to be positively correlated with family income level

Solution

Mission 4 Salone Ministries must raise the profile of youth development work and the difference it makes in the lives of young citizens across the Bo District by supporting 50 youths for Technical and Vocational Skills Training. Quality and relevant vocational education and training can provide youths with the knowledge, skills and competencies required for the jobs of today and tomorrow. The provision of relevant job skills can therefore be a robust means of empowering youths to seize employmen

Long-Term Impact

Quality and relevant vocational education and training can provide youths with the knowledge, skills and competencies required for the jobs of today and tomorrow. The provision of relevant job skills can therefore be a robust means of empowering youths to seize employment opportunities or equip them for self-employment. Better skills training can help support decent work, more equitable and inclusive growth and be the bridge between education and the labour market, supporting the transition.
