Female Officer Need Training for Violence response

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We are truly grateful to those who have shown support for the Empower 100 Female Police to Fight Femicide project. Your concern for the safety of women and girls in Nigeria is meaningful but the current level of support does not yet allow us to roll out the training yet.

Across many communities, cases of violence against women continue to occur, yet response systems are not always prepared to handle them effectively. Survivors may struggle to find officers who understand the nature of such cases or who can respond with the sensitivity and urgency required. This gap can leave victims without proper support and allow offenders to go unpunished.

Female police officers are in a strong position to respond to these cases, as many survivors feel more comfortable speaking with them. However, without specialized training, even willing officers may lack the tools needed to properly investigate, document, and respond to gender-based violence.

This project is designed to train 100 female police officers with practical skills to handle cases of femicide and other forms of violence. The training will focus on identifying warning signs, supporting victims, handling evidence, and improving response procedures. Mentorship and guidance will also be included to help officers apply what they learn in real situations.

With the right preparation, these officers can play a stronger role in protecting women, supporting survivors, and helping bring justice in difficult cases. Their work can also influence how communities respond to violence and encourage more victims to speak up.

It is encouraging to see people already showing interest in this cause. As more support comes in, it will be possible to move forward with the training and begin equipping these officers to better serve and protect women across different communities.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
