At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we recognize that empowering young people with practical skills is the key to transforming communities. In Southeastern Nigeria, many youths face limited employment opportunities, economic hardship, and the challenges of accessing vocational training.
The “Empower S/East Youth with Biogas Skills” initiative was created to address these challenges by providing hands-on training in biogas technology, clean energy solutions, and sustainable entrepreneurship. The goal is to equip youths with the skills and knowledge to generate income, create jobs, and contribute to environmental sustainability in their communities.
Project Activities During This Period
During this reporting period, our project team has focused on planning, community engagement, and preparatory training materials for the upcoming practical sessions.
Key activities include:
• Developing training curricula on biogas production, usage, and maintenance • Engaging local youth leaders and community stakeholders to identify participants • Conducting awareness sessions on the benefits of clean energy and sustainable livelihoods • Preparing logistics, tools, and equipment for hands-on training
While we are still awaiting direct project funding through the platform, the team has worked diligently to ensure readiness for full program implementation once funds become available.
Little by Little Fundraising Campaign (17–20 March)
We are excited to highlight the upcoming Little by Little GlobalGiving fundraising campaign, taking place from 17th to 20th March. This campaign offers a critical opportunity for supporters to directly fund the training and empowerment of youths in Southeastern Nigeria.
Funds raised during this campaign will help to:
• Procure biogas equipment, tools, and safety gear for training sessions • Support hands-on workshops and practical skill-building for youth participants • Provide mentorship, follow-up, and entrepreneurial guidance for trained youths • Expand outreach to more communities, empowering a larger number of youths
Even small donations during this campaign can have a transformative impact, turning motivated youths into skilled professionals capable of creating sustainable livelihoods and solutions for their communities.
Challenges
The project faces several challenges:
• Limited funding – Full implementation depends on the availability of resources for equipment, training, and mentorship. • Infrastructure and logistics – Biogas training requires reliable tools, materials, and workshop spaces. • Scaling impact – Ensuring that trained youths can implement and sustain biogas projects in their communities requires ongoing mentorship and support.
Despite these challenges, our commitment to empowering youth and promoting sustainable energy solutions remains strong.
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all donors and supporters who believe in the power of skills development and sustainable energy. Your encouragement, advocacy, and contributions fuel the vision of transforming lives and communities.
We also thank GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects grassroots initiatives with compassionate supporters worldwide, enabling projects like ours to grow and thrive.
Next Steps
Once funding is secured and the campaign concludes, we will:
• Begin practical biogas training sessions for selected youth • Provide mentorship and guidance for small-scale biogas projects in their communities • Track progress and measure impact on skills development, income generation, and environmental benefits • Expand the program to additional communities based on lessons learned
By empowering youths today, we are laying the foundation for a greener, more sustainable, and economically vibrant future in Southeastern Nigeria.
Closing Reflection
Investing in the youth is investing in the future of our communities and nation. With your support, SOHF can continue to equip young people with life-changing skills, sustainable livelihoods, and a brighter future.
During the Little by Little campaign (17–20 March), your participation can help turn aspirations into tangible opportunities, enabling Southeastern Nigerian youth to thrive with clean energy skills.
Together, we can transform lives, empower communities, and build a sustainable tomorrow.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF) Empowering communities. Transforming lives.
