Changing Lives in Women

After the town hall meet with Gadan Women

Dear Supporters, Friends and Family of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

The last you heard from us, soft loans of $30 were given to 10 more women in Tofa Town to jumpstart their businesses and the feedback we have gotten is how four out of the ten women given these soft loans have returned the funds and applied for a rollover. Our collaborating partner is the Tofa Microfinance Bank that has helped us keep track of these funds and acts as a financial adviser and support to these women.

Ever since being given the soft loan, one of the beneficiaries Bishara tells it in her own way how grateful she is to be part of the programme, she has been able to save money and knows the difference now between profit and loss. A video link is attached although it is in the local Hausa Language but it tells and shows how happy she is.

Our collaborating partner of Tofa MicroFinance Bank in the local government are doing a good job of monitoring the usage of the funds and follow up on recovery.

We have taken the programme to Gadan in Ungogo Local Government Area to empower similar women who are in poverty and found out the method at whcih they thresh their millet is similar with the women of Tofa, with a lot of wastages of the millet and spending hours on the chore wasting valuable time to be used to do other household chores.

A meeting was held with the women on how to properly process their grains to reduce wastages and also to know more about community objectives. We realised that unlike the owmen of Tofa who were more enlightened and were already working in groups, the women of Gadan were working individually and thus it was a challenge to how we had already planned the project. However, after due deliberations we decided with the women to form themselves into groups of five as a start such that when the training on how to process efficiently commences, it will be a much easier process. We have learned that every community is unique and thus will modify the project to best suit these new batch of women.

The holidays have come and we would do a first follow up in the new year to coordinate the women group and to register them with the local governing council.

Your continued donation and advice will surely be of great help to bringing these women out of poverty especially now during this festive season donating $25 as a gift to start off these women on training of basic skills.
