Dear supporters, family and friends of Serendipity,
We present to you Rukayyah one of the second batch of women trained on groundnut extraction to create wealth for herself and family and by extension the community. Rukayyah tells her story about how her life had been before our intervention, the current challenges they were facing as a group and the impact of learning something new and different to assist her household. Begin Quote “I now am able to help my husband to take care of my kids and I don’t have to wait for him to bring funds to run the household as the little I make goes a lot” End Quote.
Another batch of ten women were trained under a new cooperative group Alkhairi Kuli Kuli Trading association where our previously trained women from the first and second batch went through the basics of teaching them how to use, maintain and get the most out of the machine, tips on how to make enough profit from the sales of their products and they were also taught basic business and entrepreneurial skills.
With your kind donation, a third locally fabricated oil extraction and processing machine was procured and handed over to them just like the previous two batches of women. The machine would also serve several other purposes such that it is not only exclusive to groundnut but can be used to process rice into flour, tomatoes into paste and so on. It is a multi-purpose machine and thus will open up avenues for the women to be empowered and not necessarily depend on their husbands to provide funds to run the household.
A soft grant of $30 was also given to each woman such that they can jumpstart on the business as a group pulling these funds together and improving on their way of life through the cooperative with the Tofa Development Association as a supervisory body for sustainability. Further trainings on packaging will be conducted for awareness on how to sell their products to the wider community as now it is limited to their immediate community.
This model can be replicated in neighbouring communities as Dawakin Tofa, Janguza to mention a few as the women thus far trained will not only act as mentors but will also train other upcoming women. Will you help them to succeed on this dream? Your donation towards provision of locally fabricated machines, training of entrepreneurial skills to these women will not only alleviate poverty but in sync with achieving sustainable development goal 1 which is to end poverty in all its forms through target 1.2 and 1.4 to reduce the proportion of women living in poverty and having access to economic resources.
