Dear Family, Friends and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,
Last year we started a stop hunger project for women and youths in Kano, Nigeria because of the food crisis and shortage of food supply in our country that has tripled in the past year till date due to insecurity, inflation, recession to mention a few of the issues currently plaguing our country Nigeria and thus part of our goal to empower our women and youths we embarked upon trainings of youths on sustainable vegetable production starting from their backyard.
We used a systems approach of trainings of our youths teaching them how to plan and start vegetable production, knowing the right soil type, diseases that could occur, stages of fertilizer application, knowing the right type of seeds and seedling to use, profitability and sustainability of their vegetable farm.
The training program ran three cohorts on a two months training and monitoring and evaluation of the participants after six months where they will showcase their demo gardens/farms to see how they have been able to adapt what they learnt on the training to the practical aspect. Seedlings and seeds were provided to them to kick start on their demo gardens and home gardens.
Meet Umar, a participant of Cohort 1 who was able to apply what he learnt and grew his home garden from just two packs of seedlings and seeds to having a large varieties of fruits and vegetables and a further grant of $72 to help him expand and grow his business.Umar’s story has changed. Hear his story on our Youtube Channel https://youtu.be/37UJOPkyp7g
