The preparation for our new Sports Programme in Siem Reap continues, and we have some exciting plans set for the coming year. We will be realizing our overall goals and objectives using a strategy of incremental phases, starting with a basic physical education and sports programme. We will gradually build on this over time, introducing more and more children, communities, concepts, and facets of our project vision, culminating in a fully realized programme.
The idea is to introduce the first phase of the programme at our own school in Prasat Cha – Helping Hands Cambodia. From there the programme will expand outward into the surrounding communities, with each step in our plan bringing more enrichment to the lives of children in rural Siem Reap. We would like to share these plans so that you feel you are a part of our team; we’re in this together, and with your financial support, our strategy will become reality.
Project Phases
The project will have 5 stages of development. The transition into each new phase will occur as funding becomes available and when the previous phase is fully realized and running smoothly. The roadmap of our plan is as follows:
Phase I: PE Programme and Afterschool Sports Programme introduced at Globalteer’s Helping Hands School (HHC) in Prasat Cha, bringing regular sports activities into the lives of over 300 children.
Phase II: Programme facilities expanded at HHC to integrate children from the surrounding community and nearby villages, bringing potentially over 2000 children into the programme.
Phase III: We take the model used at our HHC school and duplicate it other rural schools outside of the immediate area, farther broadening the scope of the programme, and bringing children together from different communities for monthly, quarterly and annual sports festivals.
Phase IV: Introduce “Goals for Girls” as part of the overall programme. Young women are chosen from those within the existing programme to participate in valuable leadership workshops and training through sport.
Phase V: Introduce "Sports for Social Impact" as part of the project to fully realize the programme vision. Coaches are trained in the curriculum, and regular sports programming in the communities will now include these valuable lessons.
Work on the first phase will begin as soon as funding allows, and we cannot wait to get started! We know the children at Helping Hands will be enthusiastic about the programme as well. Be looking for our next project report with more updates on our progress!
