Many blind children in Nigeria struggle with mobility and independence, affecting their education and daily lives. This project will provide AI-powered smart glasses that use audio guidance and real-time obstacle detection to help these children navigate their surroundings safely. By offering this technology to 200 children, we aim to improve their autonomy, support their educational journey, and enhance their quality of life, helping them gain confidence and access social opportunities.
Many blind children in Nigeria struggle with navigating their environment, limiting their independence and access to education. Without proper mobility aids, they rely heavily on others, affecting their confidence and self-esteem. This dependency leads to isolation and reduces their opportunities for social interaction and learning. The lack of assistive technology worsens the challenges they face, making it difficult for them to actively engage with their surroundings and develop life skills.
This project will provide smart glasses to blind children in Nigeria, enabling them to navigate their environment more independently. The smart glasses use sensors and audio feedback to help children detect obstacles and move around safely. By offering this technology, the project will empower blind children to engage more confidently in daily activities, improve their mobility, and enhance their ability to access education, fostering greater independence and participation in society.
This project will have a lasting impact by significantly improving the quality of life for blind children in Nigeria. As these children gain more independence and confidence, they will be better able to navigate their surroundings and participate in daily activities, including education. Over time, this will help reduce the social isolation often experienced by blind individuals. The project also lays the foundation for wider acceptance and inclusion of people with visual impairments in Nigeria.
