Help Blind Children in Nigeria Gain Independence

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Prospective Donors,

Thank you for showing interest in this project, “Empower 200 Blind Children with AI Smart Glasses.” Although we have not yet received donations, we remain hopeful that with your kindness, we can soon begin to change the lives of blind children who continue to face daily struggles without access to tools that could ease their hardship.

Blindness in Nigeria is an enormous public health and social challenge. According to the Nigerian National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey, there are about 4.25 million adults aged 40 years and above who are visually impaired, with 1.13 million of them completely blind. Among children, it is estimated that nearly 70,000 live with blindness or severe visual impairment. Many of these children are born into families without resources to provide special care or adaptive technology.

The setbacks blind children face are deadly in both silent and visible ways. Without sight, many cannot move around safely, leading to frequent injuries and accidents. Their education is often disrupted because schools lack the right materials and caregivers cannot provide constant guidance. Too often, blind children are left behind, depending on family members who themselves struggle with poverty, leaving these children isolated and vulnerable.

Caregivers and guardians, despite their best intentions, are often unable to give full-time attention. The demands of daily survival in Nigeria make it difficult for parents to provide the round-the-clock support that blind children need. This leaves many children at risk of neglect, exclusion from school, and an uncertain future.

The AI Smart Glasses we plan to provide will not only help blind children identify objects, read printed materials through voice feedback, and recognize faces, but will also give them a sense of safety and independence. For many, these glasses will be their first chance to participate in school and daily activities with reduced reliance on others.

We urgently need your help to make this project a reality. Your donation can bridge the gap between struggle and opportunity for these children. Each pair of AI Smart Glasses is a lifeline that can open doors to education, mobility, and dignity.

Thank you for considering this cause. With your generosity, we can take the first steps toward giving blind children in Nigeria a fair chance at living with confidence and hope.

Warm regards,
Kadiri, Ugbede-Ojo Dominic
