Challenge

Many women in rural Tororo have limited access to income, training, credit, and productive resources. Widows, single mothers, and caregivers of orphaned children are especially vulnerable. Poverty, climate-related crop failures, and unemployment leave families struggling to afford food, healthcare, and education. Without sustainable livelihood opportunities, women remain trapped in economic dependence, limiting their ability to support their families and improve their futures.

Solution

This project will provide 200 vulnerable women with poultry starter kits, including improved chicks, feed, vaccinations, and training in poultry management and business development. Women will also receive mentoring, veterinary support, and financial literacy education. Organized into self-help groups, participants will learn to grow profitable poultry enterprises, improve household nutrition, increase income, and build long-term economic independence for themselves and their families.

Long-Term Impact

The project will help women establish sustainable poultry businesses that continue generating income long after project completion. Increased earnings will enable families to afford food, healthcare, and education while improving household resilience. Better nutrition from eggs and poultry products will support children's health. Women's economic empowerment will strengthen their leadership and decision-making roles, creating lasting benefits for families, communities, and future generations.
