In Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Benue state Nigeria, 29,162 children live with HIV, many lacking consistent access to treatment and proper nutrition. Missed medication doses and limited healthcare increase their risk of infections, stunted growth, and early death. This project provides antiretroviral therapy, nutritional support, and regular medical monitoring to help children stay healthy, attend school, and avoid preventable illnesses.
Children living with HIV in these states face high death rates due to inconsistent medication, poor nutrition & limited access to healthcare. Families often cannot afford frequent clinic visits, and many are unaware of proper treatment routines. Untreated children experience repeated infections, developmental delays, and social stigma. Without intervention thousands risk preventable illness/death, disrupting education, daily life & future opportunities for stable health & community participation
This project ensures children receive continuous antiretroviral therapy, nutritional support, and medical monitoring. Staff conduct home visits and counseling to improve medication adherence and recognize early signs of illness.Mobile Clinics provide regular checkups, lab tests, and treatment adjustments. By keeping children healthy and supporting families with education/care, the project helps children continue school, reduces infections & maintains emotional well-being despite living with HIV.
Consistent treatment and support will lower HIV-related deaths among children in Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Benue. Healthy children can attend school and achieve better learning outcomes, building a foundation for stable futures. Families gain the knowledge and confidence to manage HIV effectively. Strengthened local healthcare networks provide sustainable care for affected children. Over the years, fewer children will face preventable deaths, allowing more to grow into healthy, productive adults.
