Vulnerable mothers engage as Community Coordinators for art workshops with underprivileged children

By Camille Seneque | NGO Manager

Dear supporters,

These past months have been challenging again due to the pandemic. In March 2021, another lockdown put our on-field activities on hold with our team of 8 vulnerable mothers acting as Community Coordinators who facilitate art workshops with the underpriviledged children in their locality.

However, these mothers showed resilience once again: they were eager to keep on meeting online with TIPA team so as to continue reflecting on ways to improve their interventions with children. They were regular to the weekly online follow-up sessions and even created short videos as tutorials to create artworks from scrap material. They felt proud of themselves and one of them even pointed out how creating her videos with the help of her son created bonding between them. These videos were shared on our online support group for parents on Whatsapp, so this sharing gave value to the Community Coordinators efforts.

We had planned to start a training for the Community Coordinators and additional mothers who aspired to get involved similarly to help them consolidate or develop professional skills to plan and facilitate art workshops with the children, using a participative and valorizing approach. Unfortunately, the lockdown and current restrictions (only gatherings of 10 persons allowed) prevented us from launching the training sessions. Once the restrictions are lifted, we will be able to start this training for which the mothers are impatient to engage in.

Children in ZEP schools are currently on holidays (since March), therefore the lockdown and restrictions did not affect our on-field activities with pupils of the 2 schools in which TIPA Art facilitator used to intervene. Once schools resumes in July, TIPA art facilitator and the Community Coordinators will be able to launch art workshops with the pupils.

We would like to share with you our annual report 2020 (link below) which gives an overview of TIPA's achievements and challenges faced last year. Enjoy the reading and thank you again for your continuous support!

Warm regards from TIPA team
