1. Project Summary

In 2025, the AGAPE Training Center will launch a vocational training program for 50 young girls who are survivors of war and violence in North and South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These girls, often deprived of education and left with no support, are forced into prostitution as a means of survival.

This project aims to provide them with hands-on skills in mechanics, welding, and fitting—skills that are in high demand locally. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty, restore dignity, and enable long-term financial independence.

2. Background and Justification

For decades, the DRC has been devastated by armed conflict, leaving women and girls among the most vulnerable. Many have experienced trauma, dropped out of school, and are trapped in extreme poverty.

Without access to training or employment, many young girls are left with no other option than to turn to prostitution. The AGAPE Training Center is stepping in to offer a sustainable and impactful solution to this humanitarian crisis.

3. Project Objectives

Overall Objective:
To enable 50 vulnerable girls to achieve financial independence through quality vocational training.

Specific Objectives:

  • Deliver a 6-month training in mechanics, welding, and fitting
  • Boost the girls’ self-confidence and resilience
  • Facilitate access to employment or entrepreneurship
  • Break the cycle of economic dependency and abuse

4. Expected Impact

  • 50 girls trained and ready to join the job market
  • Significant reduction in the economic vulnerability of participants
  • Improved living conditions for their families
  • Positive role models for other girls in their communities
  • A stronger, more resilient social and economic fabric in the region

5. Estimated Budget

The total estimated cost of the project is $11,000 USD.

This amount will cover:

  • Training equipment (welding tools, mechanical kits)
  • Trainers’ stipends
  • Psychosocial support
  • Logistical and administrative expenses
