Empowering 50 Girls in DRC

By JOSUE AGIZO | COORDINATOR

1. Context and Rationale

In the provinces of North and South Kivu, the ongoing insecurity and economic hardship continue to expose thousands of young girls to extreme vulnerability. Many have been directly or indirectly affected by armed conflict, forcing them to drop out of school and leaving them without real prospects for the future. With no support or opportunities, some are pushed into harmful survival strategies, including sexual exploitation.

In this context, sustainable solutions are urgently needed. Access to vocational training remains one of the most effective ways to break this cycle of vulnerability.

2. Project Overview

The project “Empower 50 Girls with Vocational Skills in DRC”, led by the AGAPE Training Center, aims to provide vocational training to 50 young girls in mechanics, welding, and fitting starting in November 2025.

These trades, often male-dominated, offer real economic opportunities. By equipping beneficiaries with practical technical skills, the project creates a pathway toward financial independence and social reintegration.

3. Objectives

Overall Objective:
To contribute to the socio-economic empowerment of vulnerable young girls in Eastern DRC.

Specific Objectives:

  • Provide vocational training to 50 girls in high-demand technical fields
  • Support their access to employment or self-employment
  • Reduce risks of exploitation and economic dependency
  • Restore dignity and self-confidence

4. Current Progress

So far:

  • The project is in the phase of identifying trainers and beneficiaries
  • Logistical preparations are ongoing
  • The official launch is scheduled for November 2025

Thanks to the collaboration with GlobalGiving, initial fundraising efforts have already begun.

5. Budget and Funding

The total project budget is estimated at 10,000 USD.

To date, 50 USD has been raised through early donations via GlobalGiving.

While this amount is still modest, it reflects a meaningful start and growing trust in the project. With continued mobilization and the visibility provided through GlobalGiving, we are confident that the funding goal will be reached.

6. Expected Impact

The impact of this project will extend far beyond the 50 direct beneficiaries:

  • Improved living conditions for participants and their families
  • Increased access to education for siblings through generated income
  • Creation of positive role models for other young girls
  • Contribution to reducing poverty and vulnerability within communities

This initiative aims to build hope, resilience, and long-term transformation.

7. Call to Donors

Now more than ever, this project needs your support.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings a young girl closer to a better future. Supporting this project means investing in dignity, stability, and sustainable development.

We warmly invite individuals, partners, and organizations to join this mission. Together, we can offer these girls a real second chance.

8. Acknowledgements

We sincerely thank all donors who have already contributed to this initiative. Your generosity brings hope and marks the beginning of meaningful change.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to GlobalGiving for their support and platform, which makes this mobilization possible.

Together, we can transform lives.
