AAI provides books to early learning center.
Dear Friends,
Good reading begins early and in a fun summer camp environment. Asia America Initiative recently provided books and writing materials to an early learning center in the heart of Sulu in Muslim Mindanao, Philippines. This Summer learning program brings in children from the community to improve their basic skills, regardless of their upbringing in an area of deep poverty and family poverty, lack of good governance and violence.
"The children here love learning" says school head Nisa-Lim, "because of the enthusiasm and care that is shown by their teachers, parents and older students. We are thankful to all the volunteers who make a difference in these young lives."
This project for Kindergarten through 6th grade pupils empowers boys and girls in the Philippines made homeless by typhoons and other disasters. Girls are usually the majority though, living with their families in squatter ghettos after being displaced from their homes. We are grateful to our colleagues from Notre Dame College for assisting those who live in open-air evacuation centers. AAI provides books and school supplies to continue their education. At least one meal prepared in school by parents and teachers provides protein, veggies and fruit to improve energy for nutrition and wellness. We also provide clean water for hygiene, soaps, toothbushing and other health supplies.
