Since 2009, Boko Haram's insurgency has resulted in over 350,000 deaths and displaced more than 2 million people in northeast Nigeria, with Borno State being the epicenter. Women have faced severe hardships, including abductions, sexual violence, and the loss of livelihoods. This project will empower 500 women in post-conflict Borno through skills acquisition training for self-reliance, agricultural support, business grants, and healthcare assistance to them rebuild their lives and communities.
In Borno, years of insurgency have devastated women's lives, stripping them of homes, livelihoods, and support systems. Once-reliable income sources like farming, livestock rearing, and small-scale trading have been decimated by violence, land insecurity, and climate shocks. With limited alternatives, women resort to high-risk survival strategies. Without intervention, these systemic gaps risk cementing long-term poverty, exposing women to trafficking, child marriage, and recurrent violence.
This project support 500 women in Borno state, North East Nigeria through skills training to boost self-reliance and economic independence, agricultural aid for nutritious food production and income, business grants to start or grow small ventures, and healthcare services including mental health and maternal care. These project will help restore livelihoods, reduce dependence amid displacement and stigma, and help them rebuild their lives and drive community recovery.
This project supports long-term recovery by helping women acquire income-generating skills and secure decent livelihoods. With skills training, business grants, and farming support, women can run self-sustaining ventures that boost local economies & food security, reducing risky survival choices. Healthcare access lowers maternal deaths and chronic health disparities. As women recovers and grow, they reinvest in families-increasing girls' education enrollment and disrupting generational poverty.
