Maintenance Challenges During Peak Milk Season

By Natasha Wilson | Senior Technical Lead

We are reaching out to our community of supporters with a transparent update on the current state of the dairy and the hurdles we are facing as we strive to empower Maasai women through economic independence.

The Current Situation: A Call for Support To date, we have not yet reached our recent fundraising targets. This lack of funds has a direct impact on our daily operations. Currently, our facility’s floor is in urgent need of repair to meet hygiene and safety standards. Furthermore, our processing equipment is struggling; specifically, several temperature sensors have broken.

The Impact on Operations Temperature control is the most critical element of dairy processing. Without functional sensors, we cannot safely monitor large batches of milk. This has forced us to scale back significantly, processing only small quantities at a time to ensure quality control.

Why We Need to Act Now We are currently in peak milk season. This is the time of year when Maasai women have the most surplus milk to sell, providing them with their best opportunity to earn an independent income.

It is heartbreaking to see this "window of opportunity" limited by mechanical failures. We need to act fast to replace these components and repair the facility so we can return to full operational capacity.

How You Can Help Every donation, no matter the size, goes directly toward these essential repairs. By fixing a sensor or repairing the floor, you aren't just maintaining a building—you are ensuring that hundreds of women can turn their milk into a sustainable livelihood during this crucial season.

Thank you for standing with the Maasai women of Terat.
