In Burkina Faso, 2.2% of women aged 15 to 49 living in rural areas own and use a bank account, and 29.5% of women make decisions regarding their own health. Several young girls and women who are mothers / guardians of orphaned children are vulnerable due to poverty. They live in unemployment and do not have access to credit or savings with financial institutions (banks and microfinance) to develop income-generating activities. This poverty situation prevents them from covering expenses related to their own health and that of their children, their children's education, and from effectively contributing to household expenses.
The project will train 200 vulnerable young girls and women who are mothers/guardians of orphaned children in life skills, management, and the creation of income-generating activities. The project will set up 8 savings and loan groups for the benefit of 200 vulnerable young girls and women who are mothers/guardians of orphaned children, using the VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) approach.
The project will allow 200 young girls and women who are mothers/guardians of orphaned children, and their families, to live with dignity. The project will also help reduce unemployment and poverty, and strengthen social cohesion and solidarity within the community.
