Summary

This project will empower 40 rural women and equip them with skills to become self-reliant through agriculture/farming. Through this project, there will be increased incomes for rural women's households,food security,better nutrition and education for their children and hence transformed lives.

Challenge

According to Uganda National Household Survey 2016/17 showed that poverty had gone up by about eight percent(8%), increasing the rate of helplessness in Uganda. Whereby poverty and economic concerns being high on citizens' list of problems facing their households and there is still a wide income inequality between men and women with the latter earning lesser and that with widening inequality, the women are concentrated in the lower quintiles of the poor. This project will be fighting poverty.

Solution

This project will assist 40 vulnerable rural women smallholder farmers improve local food production and reduce reliance on buying food.For agriculture to prosper, farm inputs need to be available, affordable, accessible, and good quality. By providing Seeds, fertilizers, and agro-chemicals to rural women they will be an improvement in the productivity of good quality food supplies and hence increase on incomes of smallholder farmers in rural area of Kyangwali.

Long-Term Impact

This project will facilitate 40 rural women to carry out agriculture and capability to increase their household income in their families and communities which will then help better their health and welfare. It will strengthen access to rural financial services to enable rural women farmers to invest in equipment and other infrastructure improvements for production and processing, in addition to addressing quality issues that will help get better prices for their agricultural products.
