Casa Hogar de Cabo San Lucas A.C. works with girls to transcend poverty, abusive family environments, and gender-based violence. We work to restore violated rights and strive to equip young women who excel beyond the norm of our society, break cycles of violence and become agents of change in our communities. This project will focus on providing academic growth opportunities to 25 girls. Key components to drive change are Academic Coordinator and development of customized life plan.
Nearly a quarter of all Mexican teen girls under 18 are married or reside in informal unions. Mexico has the highest rate of teen pregnancy of any OECD country. While one in ten males between the ages of 15 to 29 are not in school or employed, the rate is more than three times higher for females of the same age range. This problem is compounded by high rates of domestic abuse and broken families. It is imperative to focus on empowering girls to create the change required for brighter futures.
We will hire an Academic Coordinator to champion all the schooling needs and customize each girl's academic plan as well as coordinate theme-specific tutoring to improve grade point averages. Also, we will create a customized life plan that identifies their professional aspirations. Support through extracurricular activities and hands-on training will be provided. Together we can empower girls to overcome realities of unemployment and poverty that contribute to a spiral of violence in Mexico.
The project will invest into 25 female children and teens that will grow up into productive, hardworking citizens, responsible spouses and role-model parents. It will provide a path out of poverty, improve the talent pool of our community. By focusing on academic regularization and establishing life plan guidance the girls at Casa Hogar will increase their probability to pursue higher education and be better prepared for success when reaching adulthood.
