WISER – WHEN GIRLS THRIVE, WE THRIVE
From the moment that we first opened our gates to the first 30 girls in 2010, WISER has continued to deepen its impact through its model of building educated female leaders who are empowered to drive change in their communities. WISER has provided opportunities for girls who could otherwise not have accessed secondary education in a rural community where for a long time girls’ education was undervalued and only 7% of girls complete secondary education.
By end of 2023, the 10th cohort of girls graduated from WISER, increasing our alumnae to a total of 430 girls, the largest girls’ alumnae network in a rural area. WISER has continued to excel with the 2023 cohort of 45 girls maintaining the tradition of 100% transition rate - 56% of them qualified to join university as compared to 17% at the national level while 44% will be joining tertiary institutions. Our robust programs have ensured that barriers that hinder girls access to health and education are addressed and that WISER girls can pursue their dreams and aspirations. In December 2023, one of WISER’s alumni, earned a First class Honors degree in Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and fisheries, a remarkable achievement in the region. Moreover, we currently have 3 of the alumnae who have completed their university education and are now teaching in WISER school.
WISER endeavors to create an environment that provides safety and essentials that build girls agency, contributing to their personal and social development. We currently have two of the WISER alumnae serving in the Board, making major contributions to the organisations strategic decision making and governance. The impact of WISER can be felt in almost every household in the Muhuru community, where their daughters have had an opportunity to receive a 4-year scholarship to pursue their secondary education. This year, a new cohort of 60 new girls will join WISER, enabling us to extend our pursuit of excellence and transformation as the network of female leaders grows.
Over the years, WISER has managed to put a smile on hundred of girls and their families, reviving their hope for a better tomorrow. Thank you for touching and transforming their lives through your support.
