During this period, we have been focused on fundraising for summer camps and internships for young Bahamians. However, our newest staff member, Sam, did get some training on dealing with a dead stranded sperm whale calf, see pictures.
Sadly, when we arrived at the whale we found it had been cut open by people looking for ambergris, even though it is illegal to cut open a whale in The Bahamas unless authorised to do so and, ambergris inside a whale is very rare, and is still more like feces, so worhtless. Finally, in this case the whale was a calf, so not old enough yet to produce ambergris.
Please see an educational video we produced about ambergris here.
