Challenge

We're facing a global climate crisis. Deforestation, ecosystem destruction, erosion and flooding along coastlines due to climate change threaten the health, safety, and welfare of millions. But significant strategic action from individuals, communities, and policymakers can help mitigate the impact, ensuring more communities are protecting their food systems, coastlines, and forests.

Solution

Research shows a strong correlation between emotional connections to characters lasting behavior change. Our stories engage audiences in conversations and connect individuals and communities to information and resources that drive sustainable change. Radio dramas like Feet on the Ground in Central America empower small farmers to use sustainable farming to increase their crop yield programs in West Africa help communities protect mangroves to preserve coastal ecosystems.

Long-Term Impact

In Central America, 90% of listeners reported adopting sustainable farming practices. Within the first three months of Watasay Ston, hundreds of listeners called in with questions. Watasay Ston has encouraged listeners to enforce laws surrounding conservation, selectively cut and replant mangroves, and construct embankments. These are all keys to building resilience to climate change. We're now working in Mozambique to protect mangroves in coastal communities.
