The project will train 100 women affected by covid-19 pandemic in poultry entrepreneurship skills, support to build 100 poultry units, stock the units with poultries, feeds and provide preventive treatment for the first three month of the project.
Over 100 women working in hotels and restaurants lost their jobs due to covid-19 pandemic. Kenya government initiated 'employment for youth programme' to mitigate against the social impact of covid-19. Very few women were recruited on the programme, hence majority of women developed negative coping mechanism. e.g. alcohol and drug abuse and as commercial sex workers. There has been an increase of un planned pregnancies among young women increasing the risk of un safe abortion and contracting HIV
The project will train 100 women on poultry enterprise skills for 3 days, support them to constructs 100 poultry units, stock them with 5000 birds, provide preventive treatment and feeds for first three month. The trained women will be expected to pass on the knowledge and skills acquired to other women in the community.
The project will train 100 women in poultry enterprise skills, allowing them to create employment opportunities for themselves and other women, create a source of income and improve livelihood of the women and their families.
