Northern Nigeria faces high poverty, low school enrollment, and rising insecurity. UNICEF reports that over 10 million Nigerian children are out of school, with the highest numbers in the north. Families often lack access to safe learning spaces, leaving youth vulnerable to exploitation and early marriage. This project will provide structured education, vocational training, & mentorship in safe community centers to give children and young adults the tools to learn, work, & build brighter futures
Northern Nigeria has some of the lowest school attendance rates in Africa, with poverty, insecurity, and cultural barriers keeping children out of school. Many families cannot afford books, uniforms, or safe places for learning. Girls are especially affected, with many forced into early marriage. Youth without education or job skills remain at risk of exploitation, child labor, and violence, leaving entire families trapped in cycles of poverty and dependence.
The project will set up safe community centers and mobile learning hubs where children receive basic literacy and numeracy lessons. Young adults will gain vocational training such as tailoring, carpentry, and small trade skills. Local mentors and teachers will guide participants, creating safe spaces for learning. By covering costs for supplies, training, and safe spaces, the project reduces barriers that keep children and youth from education and income-generating opportunities.
Educated and skilled youth are less vulnerable to early marriage, child labor, and exploitation. Families will have stronger sources of income, reducing poverty and reliance on harmful survival methods. Over time, communities with higher literacy and vocational skills are more stable, as young people find safe livelihoods. This project plants the foundation for safer, more self-reliant communities where families can invest in the next generation's learning and growth.
