Empowering Girls to Stand Up to Bullying

By Rosario Felix | Project Leader

"At my school my classmates used to make fun of me… here I learned that no one has the right to disrespect us."
— María, workshop participant

In Pamplona Alta, in the district of San Juan de Miraflores, many girls grow up facing situations that affect their emotional well-being and their sense of safety. Through our organization, we promote actions to strengthen their socio-emotional skills and provide them with tools to protect themselves and value who they are.

Through the community play center “Jugando Aprendo”, we have been able to conduct workshops and participatory activities where girls work on recognizing their emotions, strengthening their self-esteem, and learning about respect and kind treatment.

During these sessions, we also address school bullying. Through games and group dynamics, the girls learn to recognize what bullying is, identify its warning signs, and understand that no one has the right to treat them with disrespect.

María, one of the participants, shared with us:

"Last year at my school my classmates used to make fun of me. I had to stand up to them. Here at the play center they told me that no one has the right to disrespect us, and I told my mom so she could help me and speak with the mothers of my classmates."

One of the girls’ mothers also shared:

"By attending the workshops, my daughter has learned how to defend herself from the bullying she was experiencing at school. Because she was listened to by your team, I was able to find out what was happening and take steps to help her. I am very grateful that you informed me and supported us during this situation."

Our goal is for every girl to recognize her emotions, feel valued, and know that she has the right to live and study in environments free from violence.

With very limited resources, we continue promoting this work so that more girls can access safe spaces where they can learn, express themselves, and strengthen their confidence.

Your support can help us continue bringing these activities to more girls who need tools to grow up with safety, respect, and opportunities.
