When a Girl Believes in Herself, Her Future Change

By Rosario Felix | Project Leader

Thanks to the support of our donors and partners, AGTR continues to create safe spaces where girls can strengthen their self-esteem, express their emotions, and build brighter futures.

Recently, in Pamplona Alta, a low-income community in the district of San Juan de Miraflores, Lima, we held the workshop “I Love and Accept Myself as I Am” as part of our project “Education for Girls in Low-Income Communities on the Outskirts of Lima.” This initiative seeks to protect girls' right to education and prevent child domestic labor, which continues to place many vulnerable girls at risk of losing educational opportunities and experiencing exploitation at an early age.

Thirty girls participated in the workshop. Through interactive activities, discussions, and creative exercises, they explored the importance of self-esteem, self-respect, and self-love. The girls shared the personal qualities that make them unique and special, expressed through drawings how they see themselves, and reflected on the importance of valuing themselves and recognizing their own worth.

One of the most meaningful moments was hearing directly from the girls. One participant shared:

"I liked that the workshops taught me how to recognize my emotions. When I feel sad or upset, I go to my mother and tell her what is happening to me."

These lessons are powerful. When girls develop confidence, learn to express their emotions, and recognize their value, they are better equipped to face challenges, stay engaged in school, and imagine futures beyond child labor and poverty.

As part of this activity, food baskets were also distributed to the mothers of all 30 participating girls. This support helps ease some of the economic pressures faced by families and contributes to creating conditions that allow girls to remain in school and continue their development.

At AGTR, we believe that every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, feel valued, and dream about her future. Thanks to the support of our partners and the generous contributions of GlobalGiving donors, we continue working alongside girls and families in San Juan de Miraflores to create opportunities, protection, and hope.

Your support makes it possible to provide educational activities, emotional development workshops, and family support initiatives that help prevent child labor and promote access to education.

Thank you for believing in the potential of these girls. With your continued support, we can help more girls stay in school, develop their talents, and grow up free from exploitation, with the confidence to pursue their dreams.
